The abandoned right of way in Mahwah/NYS.

I decided not to cross this abandoned bridge, for some reason.

After a while I found some real dirt.

Sorry about the picture, it looks like my camera phone screwed it up. Dammit.

I did find a lone, dedicated fisherman. I respect that.

Eventually I did find some dirtish roads

Everywhere seems blocked.

I topped off the gas tank... Nice to see that they gave it to me full, or nearly so.

Welcome to Desperately Seeking Dirt

I'm a motorcyclist, with a dual-sport bike. That's good!

But I have very little time to ride for sheer pleasure. That's bad.

But I DO get to live in Bergen County, NJ. That's good!

There's no dirt around here where it's legal to ride. That's bad.

So I'm heading off to New York, looking for the closest dirt roads I can find. Between Google
Maps, my GPS-enabled phone, and my innate sense of missing the turn, maybe I can find something.

I'm going to start off with a trip I'm taking after I post this introductory message. I've got a loaner bike for the weekend, with aggressive knobby tires. It's a BMW G650XChallenge, with Metzeler Karoos mounted. I'm gonna head off and see what I can find in nearby parts of New York state. If all goes well,I'll be uploading pictures along the way. Naturally enough, it's raining this morning, so I'm in no particular hurry to get started.

First, I had to stop and see Apu...

The G650XChallenge before leaving.
